Conventional forecasting and deterministic planning approaches frequently provide single-value estimates that do not adequately communicate the uncertainty surrounding future pharmaceutical demand. This limitation can result in excessive inventory, avoidable shortages, inefficient procurement, and inadequate responses to unexpected disruptions. This article examines the application of probabilistic artificial intelligence for uncertainty-aware pharmaceutical supply chain planning. The study develops a conceptual framework that integrates probabilistic demand forecasting, uncertainty quantification, causal scenario analysis, and risk-aware resource allocation. The framework draws on recent developments in probabilistic artificial intelligence and pharmaceutical supply chain analytics, incorporating advanced convergence assurance diagnostics and counterfactual scenario modeling using causal Bayesian networks. Existing research on pharmaceutical demand forecasting, stochastic optimization, machine learning, inventory management, and supply chain resilience is also examined to establish the relevance of probabilistic approaches. The analysis indicates that probabilistic AI can provide a more informative basis for pharmaceutical planning by representing a range of possible demand outcomes rather than relying exclusively on point forecasts. The integration of probabilistic forecasting with causal reasoning can further support the evaluation of alternative procurement, inventory, capacity, and distribution decisions. The proposed approach provides a foundation for more adaptive, transparent, and risk-sensitive pharmaceutical supply chain planning.
